People who don't live in California think it's always sunny here. I was one of those people before I moved here. I dreamed of shooting beautiful June weddings outdoors on crispy, beautiful, blue-skied days.
Little did I know that they have something here called June Gloom. As in, the entire MONTH of June is enclosed in a dark, foggy gloom that hovers just above the horizon.
I refuse to admit this exists! Even if it does, it still doesn't take away what June does for me--it refreshes. It renews. And it's never gloomy ALL the time :)
So June Babies, chin up, no matter what the weather is where you are! You shine so bright that no cloud could compete with you anyway!
I was unable to find out many interesting facts about June, so instead, here are some interesting facts about life in general:
-The pupil of the eye expands as much as 45% when a person looks at something pleasing
-Dalmations are always born with no spots
-Bats always turn left when exiting a cave
-It cost 7 million dollars to build the Titanic and 200 million to make a film about it
-The average person laughs 13 times per day
-If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, that person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died of wounds received in a battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of a natural cause

My sister-in-law, Cyndie loves to celebrate her half birthday. Half birthdays aren't significant to most people so more often than not, she celebrates hers by herself. I personally thing that the half-birthday is underrated--I mean, who wouldn't enjoy celebrating the six month anniversary of their birth?
Here at SHOOTSACŪ, we enjoy all birthdays, we always send out a little something to the people on our birthday list, so even if nobody else remembered their birthday, at least we get some cred!
However (and this is really strange)--Every month I read our birthday list and post the names here, and realize...some of you are not on the list. I think to myself, "Well, maybe they don't HAVE a birthday". Because that's the only good reason for not being on the list, no? Which means that you probably don't have a half birthday either, and are simply floating from year to year never getting any older (actually that's not so bad now that I think about it).
Folks, here's what I'm trying to say with this post, which makes absolutely zero sense: GET ON OUR BIRTHDAY LIST. Really, we just want to send you presents. **GET ON THE BIRTHDAY LIST**

There is something I love to see on blogs an the internet lately, and that thing is INSPIRATION. I love to see behind the scenes shots, or shots of a photographer actually capturing a photo juxtaposed to the photo he/she took.
Recently, Yves Huy Truong of Frenetic Joy Photography sent in something that went straight to the top of my radar!

If I didn't love October so much, May would be my favorite month! FINALLY we're out of the dull, sludge of winter and in the throes of Spring! Flowers are blooming, it stays light out past 7:00, and the world is just a little brighter and shinier than usual.
This month, I thought I'd give you May babies some trivia about your birthday month! Here you go:
-May has five big events: Memorial Day, Mother's Day, Armed Forces Day, the Kentucky Derby, and today, CINCO DE MAYO!
We love birthdays so much that we celebrate everyone's birthday that we know! We want to celebrate yours too, so put your name on our BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZAlist so we can send your presents!

This has been kind of an interesting year in my life with so many of my close girlfriends having their first babies. Before the babies came (or were even starting to be planned), I think we all dreaded them coming a little bit because we knew that with their chubby cheeks and little giggles would also come the loss of a flexible schedule and last minute vacations. It's been amazing for me to see how my friends have changed from regular people that I knew so well into amazing mothers.
That isn't to say though, that things aren't different, because they are. Instead of hopping into the car to head to Santa Barbara for a weekend getaway, they schedule dates with their husbands regularly to make sure that they put one another first. Instead of buying every new item at Anthropologie, they hit up yard sales for a new Exersaucer or Pack n' Play. They constantly and consistently put others ahead of themselves for the good of their families.
This is why Mother's Day holds more of a place for me this year. Although I am not a Mother, motherhood is no longer something that I don't understand why anyone would ever do, because through my friends' starting their journey, I have been able to see how much joy their children bring to their lives. Even though I live far away from my mom, I am going to do my best to make sure that she feels appreciated that day (and hopefully lots of other days too!!)
If you haven't found a way to do that for any mom in your life (it doesn't ONLY have to be your mom), our Mother's Day Sale is STILL ON FOR ANOTHER 10 HOURS!! Until midnight PST tonight (Monday), you can find just another little way to show a mom you were thinking of her, and not spend a fortune.
